Huachuca Gould’s Chapter and Turkey Hunter Care 2021

Thanksgiving Meals for Cochise County Families for Another Year

November 22nd, 2021

For the 16th year, the Huachuca Gould’s Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) and partners provided the main course for Thanksgiving dinners in southern Cochise County through the Turkey Hunters Care program.

On Nov. 22nd, eight NWTF volunteers delivered 300 frozen turkeys, 4125 pounds, to ten local charities and organizations as well as selected families. Funding came from the Huachuca Gould’s chapters of the NWTF, a Walmart grant and private donations. Delivery locations included Benson, Whetstone, Huachuca City, Sierra Vista, and rural points in Cochise County.

Wayne Kaiser, Chapter Treasurer, purchased and helped deliver the turkeys, secured donations and a grant, and coordinated with each receiving charity. Dave Winiesdorffer, Tom Fuller, Ryan Catlett, Dave Kemnitz, Scott Vasey, John Millican and Tom Deecken assisted with deliveries.

Special recognition goes to Benson Walmart Store No. 3807. Their $500 grant and reduced prices helped put more birds on Thanksgiving tables. Scott Olson (store manager), Shannon Veith (Assistant Manager), and Angela assisted.

In further recognition of past and present efforts, the Chapter proudly participated in the store’s grand re-opening earlier in the month. Huachuca Gould’s is only one of several service organizations supported by Walmart No. 3807.

Since 2010, the Huachuca Gould’s Chapter has distributed 2,490 birds through Turkey Hunters Care. What a worthwhile program!
